Joshua Bicknell - Ethnic Conflict in Kenya
Director of Balloon Ventures
​

Joshua works is the Director of Balloon Ventures, an award winning social enterprise who aim to defeat poverty and disadvantage through job creation in the developing world. They bring young people from around the world to Kenya, Uganda and Chile to work with budding entrepreneurs.

Balloon Kenya was a finalist for 'International Social Enterprise of the Year' at the 2012 Social Enterprise Awards. We have also been featured in the FT, Virgin, the Guardian and in 2013 we worked with UCL Advances, Plymouth, Northampton and Aston University to take their students abroad.
 Their acclaimed BalloonICS brings volunteers for 12 weeks in East Africa to provide entrepreneurs with the skills & knowledge to maintain new business ideas.

Ladaan is a keen volunteer of the ICS. She is currently working with 500+ young girls in the UK and around the world, promoting Activism, Sports, Travelling and Fundraising. She hopes to continue to motivate and inspire more young girls to be involved in international development.

Abhinay Muthoo is a Professor of Economics and Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick. Professor Muthoo is an economics specialist with a research interest in conflict and International Development.

 Gori Olusina Daniel -  The SDGs & tackling under-development in Northern Nigeria

Gori is the Chief Inspiration Officer & International Development for World Changers, a foundation which engages and mobilises a movement of the next generation of leaders. He recently took part in the South Africa Challenge, A cultural exchange and social responsible leadership program. He currently works at Adams & Moore as the Associate Director of Business Advisory Services.

Martyn Pennington - Gunfire or fireworks? Conflict & International Development
Martyn has worked at the European Commission for over 25 years. He managed the country programmes in Tanzania and Mali, and then the regional programme in East Africa, involved in the EU response to the Rwanda refugee crisis in 1994-1995; he subsequently worked with international organisations such as the UN. He also spent two years as a teacher in Madagascar which led to an interest in development, followed by ten years in the UK Government's Ministry for Overseas Development.

​Michael Glendinning - North Korea's Conflict Narrative: Women's Role in Economic Development

European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea 

Michael is the Director of the European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea (EAHRNK), a role he has held since starting the NGO in January 2013. His organisation's major focus is creating informed policy and strategies for governments, institutions, businesses, and other stakeholders to improve human rights in North Korea.

He is also responsible for developing and overseeing the strategy, campaigns, communications, events, policy direction, research, and administration of the organisation.​

Richard is a  freelance consultant working in international development. He worked for 15 years in the Department for International Development in a variety of statistical, policy and analytical posts. His experience covers capacity building in developing country statistical systems and monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of development interventions.

Nadia is an International development professional with expertise in private sector development and social entrepreneurship, as well as business development, project management and working with the Department for International Development (DFID). Her previous employers include DFID, the University of Sussex, and Enactus: a not for profit which helps students establish social enterprise projects.
